NCERT's new textbooks for Classes 1 to 8: which titles changed
NCERT has replaced its textbooks for Classes 1 to 8 under the new National Curriculum Framework. Here are the new titles by class, so you order the right edition.
Since 2023, NCERT has been introducing new textbooks class by class, following the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE 2023). Many of the old, familiar titles have been retired. If a parent or school orders from an old list, they can end up with the wrong book, so it is worth checking titles before every academic year.
Classes 1 and 2
- English: Mridang
- Hindi: Sarangi
- Mathematics: Joyful Mathematics
Classes 3, 4 and 5
- English: Santoor
- Hindi: Veena
- Mathematics: Maths Mela
- Environmental Studies: Our Wondrous World
Classes 6, 7 and 8
- English: Poorvi
- Hindi: Malhar
- Mathematics: Ganita Prakash
- Science: Curiosity
- Social Science: Exploring Society: India and Beyond
- Sanskrit: Deepakam
The same title is used across several classes (Poorvi, for example, is the English book for Classes 6, 7 and 8), so always mention the class when you order. Some subjects are published in parts, so ask for every part your school uses.
Classes 9 to 12
Classes 9 to 12 have continued with the established titles such as Beehive and First Flight in English, and Flamingo and Vistas in Class 12. NCERT is moving through the higher classes next, so confirm the current edition before placing a bulk order.
The easy way to get it right
Send us your school's book list on WhatsApp and we will match each subject to the current NCERT edition. Our NCERT page also lists the books class by class, with a search box to find any title.
